about

“To me, this is very boring music—most of it. It has nothing happening. Nothing is sticking. They’re playing music perfectly with wonderful intonation and technique, but it’s dangerous for jazz itself.”
—Joe Zawinul

In the mid 80's I worked for 13 months and 8 days in Greenland near the North Pole. The small air base had a music liberty that introduced me to Weather Report. It corrupted me and my ear for music.

The crowd noise in track "1. Vacillate" is stolen, as a homage, from the track "Nubian Sundance" from the album "Mysterious Traveller" by Weather Report

This 4 step process of remote covid lockdown cross continental recording involved... Emilio and I haven't met in person for 2.5 years and I last saw John 9 months ago. Alex... 3 years ago? But still we have worked closer remotely than in a studio I feel. Though it is much cooler when you can feel and smell the tension and joy of collaboratively making music together.

1. Initial rhythmic patterns recorded at Unit Sep(t) Creek

2. Bass recorded in Jersey City by Emilio Guarino (half of the bass parts inspired by drums added to the rhythmic patterns by Alex Bedwell in Denmark, but not used for this album)

3. Synths recorded at Unit Sep(t) Creek

4. Drums, percussion, mixed and mastered by John Lee at Phaedra Studios

about

Unit 7 Noise Mount Beauty, Australia

Unit 7 Noise is the publisher of musical works by Michael Folmer Hansen aka folmR, Sthurmovik and half of D. D. Sof ... and collaborators.

Folmer's Roland SH-2 and MC-202 synths, Boss DR-55 drum machine and fretless Rickenbacker knock-off were stolen in 1984. The items were uninsured and Folmer is still seeking revenge.
